Divine G’s Story
John “Divine G” Whitfield is the founder/owner of Divine G Entertainment. He is also the real life person Colman Domingo portrays in the critically acclaimed movie Sing Sing, an Oscar Nominated film that was recognized by the Academy Awards for its quality in three distinct areas: Best Lead Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay & Best Original Song.
Divine G Entertainment is an urban-based entertainment company that sells novels in numerous formats, including ebooks, paperbacks, screenplays and audiobooks, and provides services such as novel editing, adaptation and audiobook production.
Divine G’s Journey
As depicted in Sing Sing, Divine G spent 25 years in prison for a murder he maintains he did not commit, despite uncovering overwhelming evidence of his actual innocence. While incarcerated, he co-founded Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA), a program that helps incarcerated people grow through creative expression.
A multiple PEN American Center award winner, Divine G has published eight novels, all of which have been converted into audiobooks, with seven adapted into screenplays. He has also been quoted by the United Nations in its UN Report of the Special Rapporteur on the right of education of persons in detention (A/HRC/11/8 - 2 April 2009).
Since his release in 2012, he has founded Divine G Entertainment and continues his fight for exoneration. A Conviction Review Complaint remains pending with the Kings County District Attorney’s Conviction Review Unit (CRU)—where it has now been pending for more than seven years.

Divine G’s Four Credits in Sing Sing
On the movie Sing Sing, Divine G received four movie credits:
1. Story Credit — Sing Sing is based primarily on Divine G’s journey while participating in the Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) program at Sing Sing. Colman Domingo, in an Oscar-nominated lead performance, portrays Divine G as the main character.
2. Writer’s Credit — Divine G, along with Gregg Kwedar, Clint Bentley, and Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin, co-wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay.
3. Executive Producer Credit — Divine G was involved in virtually every stage of the film’s development, from helping select supporting actors to ensuring that the sets and locations were accurate, authentic, and reflective of his experiences.
4. Actor’s Credit — Divine G makes a cameo appearance as the Book Fan, who asks his fictional counterpart—Divine G, portrayed by Colman Domingo—for an autograph of one of his three published novels, Money Grip.
